IBM Content Manager OnDemand (CMoD)

IBM-based content management

IBM Content Manager OnDemand (CMoD) is a software solution that enables organizations to store, manage and access their business documents and information. The software facilitates document management and information storage, helping to make data easier to access and share across the organization.

An important feature of the product is its ability to handle large volumes of data. Organizations can store their documents, images and other content in a central repository, making it accessible to employees across the organization. This improves collaboration and increases efficiency as users no longer have to search for content across different systems and platforms.

The authorization system helps protect sensitive data and information from unauthorized access. They play a role in the secure storage of data:

  • Role-based access,
  • data encryption,
  • other security features.

IBM Content Manager OnDemand (CMoD) is scalable and can be customized to meet the needs of small businesses and large enterprises. It also integrates easily with other enterprise systems, such as customer relationship management (CRM) software and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems.

In cooperation with Barré Technologies Zrt., a leading bank in Slovenia migrated content stored in IBM Content Manager OnDemand and IBM Content Manager systems installed on an existing IBM mainframe to IBM Content Manager OnDemand installed in a UNIX environment. The Mainframe CM – UNIX CMoD migration was implemented using a proprietary migration application. Before the migration, the Content Manager data model was extracted and converted to CMoD format and loaded into the UNIX CMoD system.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is IBM Content Manager OnDemand used for in practice?

IBM Content Manager OnDemand, or IBM CMoD, is used for the long-term archiving and fast retrieval of large volumes of regularly generated business documents, reports, statements, invoices and customer communications. The goal is to make these contents available in a centralized, searchable and secure archive instead of storing them in scattered file shares or hard-to-manage folder structures.

What makes IBM CMoD different from other document management systems?

IBM CMoD is not primarily designed for manual document uploads or everyday shared file management. It is optimized for archiving large volumes of regularly generated documents and reports. It is especially useful in environments where millions of documents need to be stored in an indexed, controlled, long-term and quickly searchable way. For this reason, it is often used in financial, insurance, utility and other large-enterprise environments.

What does index-based retrieval mean in IBM CMoD?

One of the key characteristics of IBM CMoD is that documents are not searched only by file name or folder structure, but through predefined index fields. These index fields can include customer ID, invoice number, date, transaction number, document type or amount. This allows users to search large archives in a targeted way and quickly find the required document or report page.

Why are Application Group, Application and Folder important in CMoD?

In IBM CMoD, the Application Group, Application and Folder structure determines how documents are loaded, stored and retrieved. The Application Group contains the index fields and storage rules for a given document type, the Application describes the characteristics of the report or document type being loaded, and the Folder provides the search interface through which users can find the required documents. This structure is especially important in large enterprise archives where many different document types need to be managed in a consistent but clearly separated way.

How does IBM CMoD handle AFP and line data reports?

IBM CMoD can handle enterprise report formats such as AFP and line data. These often come from mainframe systems, billing systems or other back-end systems as mass-generated documents and reports. CMoD indexing solutions can extract the business data needed for search from these reports, so the archived content can later be quickly retrieved, displayed and verified.

What is the role of ARSLOAD in IBM CMoD?

ARSLOAD is an important loading component in IBM CMoD that plays a role in indexing and loading documents and reports into the system. In practice, this means that files coming from enterprise back-end systems are not placed into the archive manually, but through an automated loading process. During loading, the index data required for search is created, while the document content is placed into the appropriate archive storage environment.

How does Barré Technologies support an IBM CMoD project?

Barré Technologies Zrt. can support IBM CMoD projects by helping design the appropriate archiving structure, Application Group, Application, Folder, indexing logic and loading process. In practice, this means supporting how large volumes of reports and documents are loaded into the CMoD system, which business fields they should be searchable by, how they should fit into the existing enterprise environment, and how the archive can remain maintainable in the long term.
